I'm planning a trip to Toronto with my friends. However, we all have our expenses and we are trying to make it as affordable as possible. Different cities has different methods of travel. In Miami, you need to rent a car - the bus system is terrible and there's barely any other travel method unless you are in downtown. While in New York, anywhere you go, you can use the subway.

If going to Toronto and Quebec, which would you suggest - can we get by with Subway travel and maybe grabbing a taxi on a few occasions, or is a rental car a must have?
